# Privacy Policy

> What Trade Post stores, why, for how long, and how to get rid of it.

<Info>
**Last updated: 2 September 2026.** This policy covers the Trade Post app for
Reddit. It is not Reddit's privacy policy. Reddit's own policies apply to your
Reddit account and to everything you post publicly, and are separate from this.
</Info>

## Summary

Trade Post is a private workspace inside a subreddit. It holds a list of the
things you have to trade, and the offers and trades you are in.

Four things are true of all of it:

* **Storage is per subreddit.** Trade Post's storage is separate in every community
it is installed in. Saving something in one subreddit does not carry it to
another, and moderators of one subreddit cannot see another's data.
* **Almost everything has a deletion clock.** Records expire automatically. The
  table below says when.
* **Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train anything.**
* **Trade Post does not store shipping addresses, payment handles, or phone
numbers.** There is nowhere in the app to save one. Traders exchange them in
Reddit messages, which Trade Post never sees.

## Who runs this

Trade Post is built and operated by Collin Makohon as an independent Reddit
developer. It is not operated by Reddit.

For a privacy question, a data request, or anything else in this policy, message

### Inventory

Photos are uploaded to Reddit's own media hosting and Trade Post stores the
resulting links. Items you have marked as traded may be removed sooner, depending
on your subreddit's settings.

### Listings, offers and trades

When you publish a listing or make an offer, **that is a real Reddit post or
comment, made under your own account.** It is public, it is yours, and it is
governed by Reddit's policies rather than this one. Delete it on Reddit in the
normal way.

What Trade Post keeps alongside it is a working copy, so the app can render the
list and run the trade.

### Negative records

Where a trade ends badly, because somebody backs out or goes silent, the app may
keep a record of that single resolution, including the reason given. Moderators of
that subreddit can see it. **Whether these records are kept at all is a
per-subreddit setting**, and moderators can switch it off.

### Monthly wiki log

Trade Post writes a monthly summary of resolved trades to a moderators-only wiki
page in the subreddit, so a community's trade counts survive the app's own storage
expiring. It has no expiry, because it exists to outlast everything else, and it
lives in the subreddit's own wiki rather than in the app.

### Shipping and payment details

Trade Post does not store them. There is no field for a shipping address, a PayPal
email, a Venmo or Zelle handle, or a phone number anywhere in the app.

Traders exchange them directly. **Message** on a trade card opens Reddit's own
message composer, addressed to the other trader, with the listing title and a link
to the negotiation thread already filled in. You write the rest and you send it
from your own account. The message is an ordinary Reddit private message: it lives
in your Reddit inbox, Reddit's policies govern it, and Trade Post neither sees it
nor keeps a copy of anything in it.

**Do not put card numbers, bank or routing numbers, or national ID numbers into
Trade Post.** There is nowhere in the app they would be used.

#### An earlier version stored these

Until 2 September 2026, Trade Post let you save a shipping address and four
payment handles and show them to one counterparty on a trade. That feature was
removed after Reddit's app review flagged it, and nothing in the app can read
those records any more.

Records saved before the removal delete themselves. Each carries a 90-day clock
from the last time it was saved or shared, nothing restarts that clock now, and
the storage Trade Post uses cannot be searched, so there is no list of them to
work from. The last of them is gone 90 days after the removal. Deleting a Reddit
account still erases any record belonging to it straight away.

### Technical records

Small operational records: whether a user is a moderator, where a background
cleanup job has reached, locks that stop two jobs running at once.

## Reports

Reporting a listing or an offer stores nothing. The report is handed straight to
Reddit and lands in the subreddit's modqueue.

It is filed by the Trade Post app account rather than as you, because Reddit gives
an app no way to report on somebody's behalf. **Your username is not on the
report and is not recorded anywhere**, so the moderators who read it and the
trader you reported cannot learn who sent it from Trade Post. The reason you
picked is one of five fixed options and carries no text you wrote.

A count of how many reports were filed, and whether each was for a post or a
comment, goes into the app's own logs. Neither carries a user ID.

## What Trade Post does not do

* No cookies, trackers, analytics, or advertising SDKs.
* No data sent to any third party. The app makes no outbound network requests at
all; it talks only to Reddit.
* No reading of your Reddit activity outside the subreddits it is installed in,
your private messages, your email address, or your location.
* No selling, licensing or sharing of data, and no use of it to train machine
  learning or AI models.
* No profiles and no inferences about you.

## Your rights

Trade Post stores what it stores in order to provide the app you are choosing to
use, and nothing beyond that.

At any time you can:

* **See what is held about you.** Your inventory and want list are visible in the
  app.
* **Correct it.** The same screens edit it.
* **Delete it.** Items and want lists are deleted in the app, and deleting your
Reddit account triggers an automatic cleanup.
* **Ask.** Message [u/cmakohon](https://www.reddit.com/user/cmakohon) and a request
will be answered within 30 days.

### If you delete your Reddit account

Trade Post checks periodically for accounts that no longer exist and erases what it
holds for them: your items and their index, your trade count, your want list, your
negative records, your offer and trade indexes, and any details record left over
from the removed feature described above.

**Two things survive:**

1. **Records of trades you were in.** A trade and an offer name two people, and
erasing one destroys the other person's record of a commitment they made with
you, including the evidence a moderator would need if it went wrong. These carry
your Reddit user ID and no content of yours. They expire on their own, at 45 and
   30 days.
2. **Lines in the monthly wiki log.** They record that a trade happened and how it
ended, and they live in the subreddit's wiki rather than in the app.

Neither contains a shipping address, a payment handle, or a phone number, because
the app does not store one.

## Children

Trade Post is not for anyone under 13, and no part of it is designed for or
directed at children.

## Security

Data is held in Reddit's own developer platform storage, inside the subreddit where
you used the app, and reached only through the app's authorised routes. Every read
is checked against the Reddit account making the request.

No system is perfectly secure. If Trade Post is ever compromised in a way that
affects your data, affected users and Reddit will be notified.

## Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the app's
release notes will say so. Continuing to use the app after a change means the
updated policy applies.
